Information about Payson Grotto Falls
It is about 1.25 hours South of SLC, and about 7 miles up Payson Canyon.
Trail is a short 0.6 miles to the falls. It is easy except for the 2 river crossings. These are not hard, but not something I would take an older person to. If you decide to hike to the top of the grotto, then this hike is probably more a moderate level hike.
This forest had a burn around 2018, and this trail was closed in 2019, so it is so fun that it is open this year. They have also been doing lots of work replanting to get new trees growing in this area. Even though it struggled with a fire, it was still a beautiful hike.
If you drive all the way here, I would suggest adding Big East Lake with it. You are almost to it, and it is a beautiful trail with tons of wildflowers, beautiful lake, wildlife, and the work they have put into making that lake nice it definitely something to see and appreciate. Also it is a great spot to fish or Kayak. Here is my blog post here if you are interested.
If you have a few extra minutes after Payson Grotto and Big East Lake, you should top this day off with a cherry and see the Devils Kitchen just a few more minutes up the road that is a Mini Bryce Canyon right here in this canyon.
