Mount Timpanogas Scout Falls VR 360

Scout Falls Provo - Mount Timpanogas

Scout Falls American Fork Canyon in 360 Degrees

  • 1.75 hours South of SLC - American Fork Canyon
  • about 4.4 mile round trip
  • About 1100 feet elevation gain
  • Takes about 3 hours
  • Moderate Level - Probably level 2
  • Suitable for ages 6 and above (Getting around the tree at the end though might be tough for little ones to get close, but you could see pretty good before going right up to the falls.) If you are wanting to get right up to the falls, it might be better to be 11 and above.)
This falls is one that you have to catch in a small window between June 1 when the road opens, and before summer heat decreases this falls to be not as spectacular.  Scout Falls is just the Timpanogas mountain trail from the parking lot just through the Timpanokee Campground, but then it splits off to view the falls.

VR 360 Video At SCOUT FALLS.

This is VR 360 so make sure you rotate it around to see everything.  If by the end you did not see the amazing pink flowers, 3 sets of waterfalls, and a crazy tree root trap, watch again and try and see all of them!

For being so beautiful, I was shocked that Scout Falls is not more well know.  I think it is because this trail is primarily used to make the epic hike up to the top of Timp.  Most people that hike to the top of Timpnogas wait until the glaciers up top are all melted, which also means these falls stop being so gorgeous and as noticeable from the trail, and the road is closed until at least the end of May.  That leaves a small window to catch these beauties.    The cool thing about hiking First of June is that you can see these falls almost the entire hike up because the fall in the corner (South side) just keeps cascading down rocks and boulders for a long time making it a very long and easy to see Waterfall.  There are a few tricky parts to this hike.

 GETTING TO SCOUT  FALLS

Getting there you take the right fork, and then after passing Mutual Dell, you take a right at the T.  You drive THROUGH Timpanokee Campground to get to the parking lot.

At the trail head there are a couple options and you want to take the main trail to the top of Timpanogas Mountain.  After about 2 miles you are looking for a sign that says Scout Falls.  There is a spot where it appears there is a trail that goes straight to the falls earlier that has a log in front of it trying to block hikers.  See Below
Log That tries and blocks the path to let you know this is not the correct trail. Problem is that it is such a pretty view out there that it definitely looks like the main trail. Go ahead and take it and see the falls, but then remember you need to get back on the trail to get up to the top of the falls.

That log is trying to block the bad dangerous path to let you know this is not the correct trail.  Problem is that it is such a pretty view out there that so many people go that way intentionally and then unintentionally for it definitely looks like the main trail.  Go ahead and take it and see the falls if you want, but then remember you need to get back on the trail to get up to the top of the falls.  You can't access it here.

Again, this log is telling you that this is not the main trail, and to turn around and go on the switch back that is 180 degrees around.

After just a few feet on the Scout Falls trail there is a huge tree root that appears to block the path and end the path, but you need to go over that or around it.  See Below.
Huge Tree Root you have to work over or around to get to Scout Falls.

If you get past this tree root, you will be on the ledge that leads to the falls.  It might not be great for little ones after the tree root, for it is a little steep, but a gorgeous spot.

Scout Falls 2018
I think it is interesting these 2 photos.  The above was taken the first week of June in 2018.  We hadn't had as much snow.  You can tell it is earlier in the year only because the green are lighter.  The photo below was taken the last few days of June in 2019.  We had lots of snow this year.  You can see that there are still huge slabs of snow so you would think it was earlier,  but the greens are deeper green.

Below are some of my ESSENTIAL Hiking  GEAR.  Check them out!

For most women, big pockets and belts are not something we often have, but not having quick access to your phone while hiking can be frustrating. This awesome phone case straps on my shoulder straps of my backpack and gives me super easy access to my phone whenever I need it, while being easy to store. I LOVE this!

Below is my External GPS I use.  I use it with Gaia app that I download the Map.  It helps me a lot while hiking.  Of course you always want a paper map, but this is awesome and SO helpful.

Hiking in the winter can be so much fun if you have the right gear.  I have these spikes that I carry in my backpack and when the trail gets slippery, I just slip these on and I am good!  Spikes are such a great asset to have on a trail.  I have watched people sliding and stressed out on these trails and they wish they had these for they make hiking in slippery situations no big deal, and a good pair of wool socks can keep feet warm, but yet keep the moisture off your feet.
Pair Spikes with a  great set of hiking sticks that is good quality is so important to me.  It helps me so that I can use my arms to lighten the workout on my legs when climbing, and helps me have at least 3 points to stabilize me on hard climbs or descents.
