Hot Air Balloon Freedom Festival
They started the even this year with a tribute to the man who has been in charge of this event for since its beginning about 30 years ago.

Here they have come back, field is cleared with big X on it, and the balloons coming back are trying to drop their bean bags closest to the X, and pop some of the helium balloons.

Hot Air Balloon Freedom Festival
Provo, Utah in 360 Degrees
The Freedoms festival Hot Air Balloon event is my favorite event at the Freedom Festival in Provo, Utah. Some years it is off because of wind, but this year was perfect. There was at least 26 balloons in the competition this year. Some people don't realize that this is a competition event and when it works like it did this year it can be kinda fun to cheer on the balloons. They event is that the balloons have to launch, get their balloon a certain distance from the field, and then they have to get their balloon to return (which is really tough). After the balloons are launched, the field is cleared of people and a huge X is laid out on the field and some very large balloons are attached to very long string and are placed around the field. The balloon flyers try to do 2 things. 1. Throw their bean bags onto the field and get closest to the X, and 2 getting close to one of the Helium balloons and pop it with their poker.
