Wahweap Hoodoos and White Valley VR Nature Vacation

VR Nature Vacation Wahweap Hoodoos Escalante

Wahweap HooDoos in 360 Degrees ESCALALANTE, Utah

Discovery of the White Valley

Wahweap Hoodoos have fascinated both my husband and myself ever since our first trip here.  As we walked down the river bed to the Wahweap Hoodoos, we noticed a side canyon off to the left.  We have been curious about that canyon ever since.  So this year, we headed back to the Wahweap area to explore this other side canyon that leads to the White Valley. This was such a delightful area to explore, yet it feels very much like you are first time explores to this area, for there are few trails, and even though we searched like crazy, we struggled to find a path down into the White Valley canyon.  I think this area would be pretty rough to explore without my Gaia mapping.  By recording my trail, it helped me feel safe that I always had a path back out of the crazy maze.  Of course, it is dangerous to only rely on tech, so have a backup plan in case something happens to your phone.

So are you needing a little postive boost?  Well I have a great option for you.  In this VR Adventure, we head to the Lake Powell Wahweap area to search for Hoodoos, and discovered a breathtaking vista view.  We also head to the Belly of the Dragon, and to a beautiful Utah Lake with the ice shards on the shore of a newly melted lake.  This fun VR Nature Vacation is full of fun discoveries, and wow moments, filled, incredible vistas, and beautiful hoodoos. My favorite was one that I believe is called the White Giant but looked like a Camel.  So what are you waiting for?  Curl up in a cozy chair, pop open your favorite nature smelling essential oil, grab your VR Headset, and enjoy some "Me Time" to help boost your mood and hopefully help you feel better.  Sending Love and Positive Vibes your way!  - Shauna

Information on the Trail

Of all the Escalante hikes, this is one of the longer ones, for it is more like 10+ miles total.  Luckily it is pretty easy to not get lost, for you just follow the river bed.  It starts just outside of Big Water, or you can hike in from the Toadstools trail on west side.  I would suggest downloading the area on Gaia Maps and then decide which side you want to get in from, and which set of Hoodoos you want to explore.   You can also go to the Google Earth link below and click on the little dude on the bottom right corner and it will show you my trail into the Wahweap Hoodoos.  To get to White Valley, you would need to turn left when the canyon splits.
Stunning White Valley

I took a few detours for I noticed a lot of Slot Canyons on both the left and the right side of the river, and some of those were really great finds, like the awesome Slot Canyon Picture Above. This picture is super fascinating to me, for the rock that Todd is standing behind used to be a top to a HooDoo, but it was knocked off, or the bottom got washed away in the slot.  It was on the right side of the river about 1-2 miles in.  As you walk, the cliffs are beautiful around the river bed, especially on the right side about 1-2 miles in.  We ventured away from the river bed to catch a closer look, and that is when we found the slot canyon above. Below is a 360 Walk through the Slot Canyon.
Wah Weap Hoo Doos Escalante, Utah

Found an amazing Slot Canyon just East of the Trail to the WahWeap HooDoos.

It was so amazing for the slot was different than anything I have seen before, and there was these huge round balls of rocks in the slot.  We discovered they were tops of a HooDoos that lost their tops.

One of my favorite finds was this little slot canyon as we were hiking into the HooDoos. The huge balls in the slot canyon are actually tops of HooDoos.

In the below 360 if you turn around 180 degree you can check out the row of the tops of the Hoodoos in the slot.  The arrows will walk you all the way through the slot Canyon.

WAHWEAP HOODOOS - JUST EXPLORE AND RESPECT

This hike is full of wonder, but what I like the best is that when you get to the HooDoos, it is just a fun wandering around some magnificent creations. There are no rules of "here is the straight trail", it is just be respectful of the amazing creations and wander where ever you feel safe.   They are absolutely stunning and different than anything you have ever seen before.  The best view of these is from this awesome aerial video my Husband Todd put together.  Check it out.  It is amazing!

The most famous of the Hoodoos is the WHITE GHOST.  Rotate the below 360 image 180 degree and you can see the famous WHITE GHOST.

You can also see the White Ghost in these images if you rotate it 180 degrees and look in front of Todd and to the right.

Fascinating place these WahWeep HooDoos place.  It is different than anything you have ever seen before, and so worth the hike.  Put it on your list for it is a definite awesome hike to do.

Of Course one of the most important things you need to take on this hike, is lots of water.  I love my CamelBak Hydration water Back Pack.  So great to have when hiking, and such a perfect Christmas Gift.

Video of  another slot canyon I found right before I got to the Hoo Doos. Just click below and it will come up.
