Cohab Canyon - Capitol Reef Utah |
Cohab Canyon Capitol Reef in 360 Degrees
Join me on a VR Nature Vacation to Cohab Canyon. This canyon is a shocking area of nature with all the crevasses, slots, and ledges to climb into. This canyon used to be a refuge for early polygamist men trying to hide from the government. It was brilliant, for there is an abundant amount of places to hide in here. It was so fun to walk through here and imagine where they might hide. This place also has a beautiful hoodoo, and this bright orange rock starts mixing with a bright white rock throughout the hike. If you ever to Rim Overlook trail also in Capitol Reef, there is an amazing viewpoint there that looks down on this canyon that I really enjoyed seeing after hiking this trail.INFORMATION ABOUT HIKE.
- Trail is located in Fruita Utah and Starts just across the street from the barn and campground.
- Trail is a 3 mile trail. The switchbacks to climb the first section is the steepest elevation gain.
- You climb from this cute green town up this mountain with cliffs at the top. At the top there is an opening in the cliffs and this canyon appears and when you turn that corner and see this, your mouth can't help but drop open for it is amazing and unexpected.
- It is about 3.6-4 hours South of SLC
- Trail is Moderate trail, probably level 2.
- Appropriate for kids ages 6 and up
- Capitol Reef was actually named for there is a formation here that looks like the Capital Building. Notice the silly spelling change.

Below is a fun TINY PLANET Version of Cohab Canyon that gives a whole new perspective on this section of the trail.
360 Sphere at the Top of the Switchback before descending into Cohab Canyon - It Takes your breath Away-

It is weird for the trail is quite invisible, but is one of the most cared for trails I have seen. The switchbacks are almost works of art with the rocks making paths and steps to keep you on the correct trail and safe.

All over this canyon are tiny nooks and narrow slots that inside have ledges up higher. Pioneers used these areas to hide in the early settlement days. |

My Big Horn Sheep Friend that I sat and Watched for quite a while on my hike. He watched me, and I watched him and we both were content to stare, until he turns his back on me and wiggled his tail at me! :) Beautiful thing to enjoy with such an incredible background. |

GrandStaff Canyon
I love how Grand this Canyon feels because of the height of he canyon walls. I love the arch at the end. I also really enjoy crossing back and forth across the river.

Corona and Bow Tie Arch
Also an Epic Hike. Has that challenging sections that get your blood pumping from the challenge, but your not really in danger. The arches are amazing. The canyons are beautiful, and the trail is well marked. Just follow the green rectangles!

DING and DANG SLOT CANYON
Not a canyon to head into without a buddy or if you are not a level 4 hiker. This trail is tough, but you will never forget it if you conquer it.

Tower Arch
I love this hike, for it is a less crowded Arches Hike. It is not hard in difficulty, but REALLY required you to have navigating tech, or to be very good at watching the Cairns, but sure feels awesome making it there!
